Error with program: RasUnsteady.exe Exit Code = 170

Omar
Dear all,

I hope you are enjoying HEC RAS 5.0.

I have an issue with a model that Im trying to run. I had this error message and the computation stopped (pleasse see below). i tried to reduce the time step from 1hour to 30min but I guess thats not the cause.
Could you help me solve this please?

Regards
Omar

Running unsteady with that long of a time step will likely make for an unstable model. That isn't the issue for the error here as it hasn't gotten to that point in the simulation yet. I suspect it's a geometry issue. Have you tried to run it without 2D? Simplify the model and build run in steps to narrow down what piece is causing the problem.

Re: Error with program: RasUnsteady.exe Exit Code = 170

Adom
Hello to everybody,
I have the same problem.  This occurred after having successfully performed the 2D simulation with lower mesh resolution. To be more clear, I simulated a flood event in the same area using different cell sizes: 200 m, 100 m and 75 m without problem. The error occurred when I tried to further refine the mesh using cells of 25 m.
For what I have understood looking on the web  the error should be related to the dimension of the simulation file‚Ķprobably too many cells for the dimension of the stack memory dedicated to the executable file. Is it possible to overcome this error? Is it possible to extend the dedicated memory?
Thank you very much for any help.

Please see hereafter the error:

Hi Adom,

Thanks for sharing your opinion.
I tried to run the same model using another comupter with 8Gb RAM and it worked. It seems to be a memory demand issue.

Re: Error with program: RasUnsteady.exe Exit Code = 170

Adom
Thank you Omar for your kind reply and for sharing your solution.
My computer has 16 GB RAM but strangely  it seems not enough. I suppose the model refers to a stack memory that is confined to a little amount of memory, not eventually related to the overall available RAM.
Does anybody know if and how is possible to extend the stack memory? (my working station is Windows 7, 64 bit).
Thanks in advance.

I get an error code = -1073741819

I found that I was running using the courant values of 1.0 and 0.5.
When I used a fixed time step of 1 sec the model ran ok.
